Key FeaturesA sandpiper with short yellowish legs, a long straight bill; dark grey above and pale to white below. It has aslight pale stripe over the eye. Holds its body hunched in a horizontal position as it jogs and darts along the waterline in seach of small more...invertebrates. Usually territorial and solitary. When disturbed usually flies in a low arc over the water calling "tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu".
Breeding Plumage: the entire pale underside becomes covered in a filigree of narrow, dark-grey bars and stripes. The bands under the tail are wider and very conspicuous.
